The Queen’s Gambit: Ambitious tale that soars high
After hearing some fantastic reviews, I watched the Queen’s Gambit. I never knew what the plot was about and honestly Chess was the last thing that I expected it to be. Despite that, the show impressed in several ways.
As an ambitious teen prodigy, Anya Taylor-Joy was astounding who played the character to perfection. She truly owned the show like she owned the opponents in her games. The performances from secondary casts was good as well. Set in 1960s America, the culture, dressing and places did transcended on the screen which provided an immersive experience and it made for a pleasant watch. Everything about the series was amazing and I really want to mention about the music. Be it the grandeur and pulsating tone for the chess games or the melancholic music in her lonely times, the music was just brilliant. Also, a special mention to the sound tracks used in the series.
I couldn’t think of any shortcomings with the series. The game sequences got a tinge of repetitive style towards the 5th and 6th episode yet it’s just a wee bit thing that can be easily overlooked. The season finale was truly emotional and heartwarming and the ending couldn’t be any better. It’s a mini-series with just 7 episodes and it’s streaming in Netflix.
Highly recommend it!
