The Good Old Days

I passed via my school while going out today and it brought plenty of my memories back. So, going to wallow through them for a while. Bear with me.

I have spent ten years in that school, and honestly, I would choose College life over school life as the most cherishable time of my life so far. However, it doesn’t make any less of the umpteen memories I hold close to my heart.

I got my own cycle only in 11th standard until then I used to travel by bus. Hardly 4 kilometers from my home and I would walk the distance and skip going by bus to save the ticket amount to get myself some snacks. There’s this bakery opposite the school that used to sell egg puffs. My favorite snack was the 2 Rs Pepsi they used to sell. Bikes were prohibited in school for obvious reasons. We used to go gaga seeing gear cycles which were owned only by a few in the schools.

Kho-Kho and Kabaddi were the main sport in our school. Our PT sir used to think that cricket is a lazy game and only on rare occasions he would give the bat and ball to play. Also, during these rare occasions, it’s rarest to get batting as there were over 20 people waiting to bat. There was this guy who used to go to cricket coaching who always gets to bat first and also he used to bowl first. We were so dumb that hardly anyone raised a question about that.

Academics were mostly fine, not great just fine. They don’t give the answer sheets home, so I used to increase my marks when I say them to my parents. For instance, if I had scored 32 out of 40 in a subject, I would say 37 in the home. I got away most times but once dad came to the PTA meeting and he noted down the marks and told them to my mom. Got an earful from her that day.

Miss those simpler times when the biggest tension I could have is an unfinished assignment or an upcoming test.
