A highschool quirky teacher joins as a roommate with 3 guys in a loft. The adventure and misadventures in their life, relationship and career forms the crux of the series.

Before going any further, would like to say "New girl" is unjust title and the series ain't that girly as it suggests. Like Friends or BBT, the series deals with usual problems of people in their thirties. However, unlike the said series, New girl packs with a punch in its character. They are unique and have a weird bond between them that makes the show more special.

Zooey Deschanel as the lead is an awesome fit to the character. She can't be any cuter. I don't know how many times I rewatched some of her reactions just for her charming reaction. There are 4 other characters that play the pivotal role and everyone have a great arc in the series. The growth as the seasons grow can be felt. Unlike other sitcoms that I finished within days, I took more than a month with IPL going to finish this and it was nice little journey.

Another positive about the series was the humour via body language. Most of the renowned sitcoms have epic lines to make the viewer laugh. New Girl doesn't have much of the "memorable lines" but the way the actors behave is really funny and it evokes laughter naturally. New Girl is quite vigilant about stereotyping and racism which was really good to see. Yes, there is borderline stereotyping of Indians but it doesn't irk much as it did with BBT or office.

I got to know about the series from twitter and Zooey Deschanel's guest appearance in Brooklyn 99. Interestingly, there's a crossover episode in New girl with B99 that was really good.

On the downside, the writers failed to maintain the tempo through the seasons. While the initial seasons are very funny, the jokes don’t land in the later seasons. Except for one couple I couldn’t root for the characters and this lack of emotional investment is another downside about the series.

Also, the hurried finish in the 7th season didn’t work well either though the finale was heartwarming. Besides this, the continuous reference to American pop culture left me baffled as I hardly knew any of the mentioned stuffs.

Despite these shortcomings, I would the sitcom is a decent watch that works well for major parts. Definitely watchable!

~Good watch!

The series spanning 7 seasons and 146 episodes with each running upto 20 odd minutes is available on Hotstar!
