𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 : Intriguing investigative drama that works only partly

An american anthology investigative drama that revolves around some dark crimes and subsequent effect on the lives of people involved with it.

𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟭 - 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗿

An excellent tale of a dark crime drama whose plot involves the investigation with an occult serial killer who kills innocent children for the sake of voodoo workship. The major selling point about this season is its characters and the brilliant way the series has been shot. The show gradually builds up with the plot which sucks you along with the characters and their journey. The episode 4 finale involving a shooting and hostage situation was breathtakingly shot that couldn't have been any better.

Moving on to the characters, Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle will go down as one of the most realistic and insightful character on the screen, aptly supported by Woody Harleson as Marty. Their chemistry truly reflects on the screen. The way Rust calls "Marty" or Marty counters him for his insane worldly thoughts, it's just so good. Besides, Michelle Monaghan and Alexandra Daddario make a noticeable apperance with the former adding more weight than the latter in the plot while it's vice-versa when it comes to steamy scenes.

The setting is amazing that brings out a certain creepy and eerie feel while the dialogues just make you go numb with amount of realisation it brings in you. On the downside, nothing much to pick on except that there are too many characters and references that are quite hard to keep track of.

~𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱!

𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟮 - 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗲

3 police officers from different backgrounds with bad past try to solve a murder of an important personality which unearths many unknown and hidden secrets of big king pins of the state. The season 2 tries to match up to the expectations set up by season 1 yet just falls short due to various reasons.

The biggest positive of this season is the screenplay that is dense as a forest with numerous subplots and countless characters. Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch as the 3 protagonist's do justice to their roles while the former 2 outshines the latter. However, the most impressive performance was from Vince Vaughn in the role of Frank Semyon, a vulnerable trying-to-go-legit mobster. Like season 1, an incredibly shot Shoot out scene in episode 4 was the major high point of the season.

This season tries so hard to make the viewers feel the emotions the characters go through of which some land some don't. Colin Farrell's sentiment with his son was truly felt while the same can't be said about Rachel McAdam trying to overcome dark past.

Other downsides include the shallow dialogues, too much transactions, business terms and characters referenced that certainly requires a helper guide to keep track of and the first 3 episode that serves only as a patience tester.

Though the series makes up with gripping finale episode, I personally wasn't satisfied with the way ended. People reflect with Joker and find Villains cooler than heroes yet the hope of justice is what makes the series and movie special and distinct from our real life. The series tries to be realistic by showing what would happen actually in a real life resulting in an incomplete and unjust ending.

~𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟭.

𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟯 - 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹

Two kids go missing out of which one ends up dead while there's no trace of the other. The season 3 of the investigative drama revolves around the abduction and the lives of the detectives who try to solve it.

After being too messy in the previous season, this season fares better in keeping the audience informed. The story unfolds across 3 timelines simultaneously and the screenplay is structured to perfection without much complications. Like the previous seasons, the emphasis on the landscape is visible as the people and atmosphere make a true impact. Mahershala Ali as the lead protagonist of the season was brilliant while all the other characters play their parts flawlessly. Carmen Ejogo as the lead lady was beautiful that catches the eye whenever on screen. The final revelation was a surprise and the vulnerability of the characters and being bogged down by the authorities brought in a connection while watching.

Yet, there's a certain lethargy in the narration that lets down the story. An investigation of a single case happening in 3 different timeline sounds like a promising plot yet the execution of the same is a snoozefest. Atleast in the second season there was a tension in the final episodes which is completely lacking here pinning the season under the tag "bore".
