Daredevil : Realistic Vigilante Story that is sure worth watching
A story is only as good as its antagonist. We all know truth or justice will most probably triumph in most of the cases but the journey to the triumph against an invincible villain is what makes it more entertaining.
Daredevil is one good series that has an unstoppable Villain, one with the face that's more punchable and the one that will make you yearn for his fall. I have been wanting to watch Daredevil for months now, the Spiderman cameo propelled it up the list and it was one hell of a watch.
Unlike the usual Marvel cliches and comedies that we have seen in the movies, Daredevil is a grounded story of a blind vigilante who wants to protect his city from all the evil forces. Charlie Cox portrayed the role of a lawyer by day and a vigilante by night to perfection. The way he played the blind layer with heightened sense was impeccable.
Deborah Ann Woll is one perfect woman, I mean in all sense. The emotions she carried out and the weightage given to her unlike the usual "heroine" role was perfect. Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson played his role as the sidekick neatly. It was his humour at places that kept the show from becoming completely dark.
Leaving out these, the true show stealer was Vincent D’Onofrio as the ruthless and cold "Wilson Fisk". He was perfect to the role, the unstoppable and invincible Villain who won’t back at any point. He literally gave me chills in certain scenes with his merciless demeanor. Also, I won’t forgive Hawkeye writers who made Wilson into a weak villain. Thinking now, it looks so dumb and butchers the kind of menacing villain he is.
The story across all the season was tightly knit leaving out no or rarely any loose ends. The screenplay was mostly engaging. What I loved most about the story was they set certain boundaries in preaching "doing good" or "being good". Vigilante series such as this could easily become cringing but gladly writers kept it in check.
Above I mentioned about the series being grounded, it's one likeable point about the series. It's as realistic it can get. The hero is a blind ninja with heightened sense but he's much vulnerable than any individual. The odds are challenging and the way he surpasses them makes his victory more cherishable.
This would be incomplete if I don’t make a mention about the superbly staged fight scenes. I’m the kind of guy who only rewatches steamy scenes or cute reactions of heroines in movies and series. But Daredevil made me replay and rewatch many fight scenes. The lighting, moves and camero, everything was just brilliant in how each fight and action sequence was choreographed. Remarkable is an understatement.
Finally coming to the negatives, I don’t have much to pick on. Some episodes that told the backstory of characters added weight to them, however I wish they had been trimmed it for a crispier watch. Also, there were patchy episodes here and there and minor logical loopholes that kept irking. Regardless, the show is one excellent vigilant series that will keep you engrossed and will leave you satisfied upon its completion. There were rumours making round that Season 4 is happening. Hope they don’t spoil it.
~Worth the watch. Highly Recommended!
P.S. : Probably, my longest writeup, wrote everything I wanted to say! :P
