So, Dragon has been watched and I enjoyed the movie, quite a lot.

I had expectations on the film 'cause it's from Ashwath Marimuthu who had directed 'Oh My Kadavule' before which I liked when I saw and the trailer being an obvious diversion piqued my interest.

Dragon is the usual campus story presented in a different manner with plenty of gags and high moments aided by emotions that actual transcend to the viewer, the movie is not a masterpiece but it has all the ingredients to make it a blockbuster.

Dragon's protagonist PR as D Raghavan has to be the most despicable hero I have seen in a long time in tamil cinema, for the first 30 mins. He's the embodiment of loathsomeness. Pradeep Ranganathan as Dragon is a pitch perfect portrayal. He presents himself like Dhanush but he finds his own forte gradually.

While PR is credited as hero, the original hero by the story is Myshkin. A righteous principal who tries to change the hero. It was a nice change to see him not to be villainised in the early parts. He carries a majestic look with himself and his performance is so good.

The ensemble of supporting cast consists of GVM, Harshath, Siddhu and many more but the one with the maximum impact is George Maryam. The naive father who believes his son despite all the nuisance he does. Anupama and Kayadu Lohar as two heroines. While Kayadu Lohar is a glam doll, Anupama gets a meaty memorable role to play and she aces it quite comfortably.

The movie's theme circles around morality and how the one's wrong doing will continue to haunt even if you seem to be rid of it. Ashwath Marimuthu interlaces this theme through dialogues and scenes. Thanks to the smartly yet crisply written scenes, none of them feel preachy.

Enjoyed several ideas of the director. It's kinda ironic that Dragon which spits fire fights with the fire extinguisher. Nice touch. The flung cigarette, a routine of hero brings him back a truck load of problems and several call backs that is played organically, though certain scenes feel convenient. I did not feel cheated, like I felt while watching Don.

Technically, the movie is colourful and lively to suit the vibe of the film. Leon James has delivered a solid soundtrack and background. Really wish he goes up the next level. About time.

I would rate it as this gen's very own Surya Vamsam, but with a twist.
